How this works between us

The arrangements that apply when you book a lesson.

Who the contract is with

  • Your teacher teaches your child. We make the introduction and help arrange it.
  • We set lesson prices: one hourly price for each tier of teacher. Teachers set their own notice periods.

The consultation

  • The consultation is free and commits you to nothing.
  • The first lessons with a teacher are assessment lessons, paid pay-as-you-go like any other lesson.
  • We may decline to take a family on if we do not think we have the right teacher.

Booking and payment

  • Lessons are paid for one at a time. There are no packages and no minimum commitment.
  • The price is the hourly price for your teacher's tier, applied to the length of the lesson. It is shown before you pay, and nothing is added to it.
  • You pay us for each lesson, and we pay your teacher. Card processing costs are ours: nothing is added to your price for them.
  • A lesson is confirmed once payment has completed successfully, and not before.

Changing or cancelling a lesson

  • You can reschedule or cancel up to the notice period your teacher states, which is shown to you before you book.
  • Cancel within that notice period and you are refunded in full.
  • If your teacher cancels, you are refunded in full whenever it happens.

For teachers: getting paid

  • Families pay us for lessons. We pay you the hourly pay rate we set for your tier, for the length of each lesson, by bank transfer a couple of days after it.
  • There is nothing to pay to join or to meet families. Card processing costs are ours.
  • If a lesson is refunded, the same share of your pay for it comes off your balance, or off your next payout if it has already been paid.
  • Your bank details are encrypted, and used only to pay you.

Conduct

  • Messages sent through the platform should stay relevant to your child's teaching.
  • We may suspend an account where there is a safeguarding concern, and we will cooperate with the relevant authorities.

The Two-Way Guarantee

  1. 1. Definitions

    • Goal: the long-term destination for your child in one subject, agreed in writing.
    • Milestone: a short-term target towards the Goal, lasting up to 10 weeks, agreed in writing before it starts.
    • Target: the measurable result the Milestone is for.
    • Baseline: your child's starting point when the Milestone is agreed, with the evidence for it, as written in the Milestone.
    • Improved: the improvement on the Baseline, short of the Target, that the Milestone says counts as improved.
    • Check: the timed test your child sits in a test lesson at the end of the Milestone, on the areas studied, agreed in writing before it starts. It is set and marked by your child's school teacher or, if you agree, by your tutor, as the Milestone says.
    • Pay-as-you-go: 20% of each lesson's price, paid with the lesson.
    • Performance Fee: 80% of the price of the Milestone's lessons, payable at the end of the Milestone under clause 5.
  2. 2. Our commitments

    We will:

    • (a) agree the Target and Check with you before the Milestone starts;
    • (b) deliver the lessons in the Milestone;
    • (c) set homework suited to your child;
    • (d) keep a record of attendance and homework completion and share it with you every two weeks;
    • (e) tell you in writing within 7 days if your child falls below a Family Commitment, so there's time to get back on track.
  3. 3. Your commitments (“Family Commitments”)

    • (a) Your child attends at least 90% of scheduled lessons. The following don't count as missed: lessons we cancel, lessons you reschedule with at least 24 hours' notice, and absences due to illness supported by reasonable evidence.
    • (b) Your child completes at least 80% of the homework set, as recorded under clause 2(d).
    • (c) Your child sits the Check on the agreed date, or on a rearranged date we agree.
    • (d) You tell us promptly about anything likely to affect progress, such as a change of school, exam board or tier, or an extended absence.
  4. 4. Adjusting for your child's needs

Before each Milestone starts, we'll agree the Target and Family Commitments with you in writing, adjusted for your child's needs, including any special educational needs. Either side can ask for a review. Changes apply only once both sides agree in writing.

  5. 5. How the Performance Fee is calculated

If the Family Commitments are met:

Tutor tierTarget metImproved on Baseline, Target not metNo improvement
    Early Career / Experienced100%40%0%
    Super Teacher100%0%0%
  6. 6. If the Family Commitments are not met

Clause 5 does not apply and the Performance Fee is payable in full. The exception is if we did not give you notice under clause 2(e); in that case clause 5 still applies.

  7. 7. The Baseline and the Check

    • (a) The Baseline is measured in the same way as the Check, so the two can be compared fairly. You can ask us to review the Baseline before you agree the Milestone.
    • (b) Your child sits the Check in a test lesson on our platform, unaided and under timed conditions, so that we can make sure it is fair.
    • (c) The Check is sat by the target date, or by a new date we agree no more than 14 days later. If it isn't sat by then, clause 3(c) is not met.
    • (d) We record the outcome from the marked Check and share the evidence with you.
  8. 8. Changes, pauses and lessons we cancel

    • (a) A Milestone changes only when we send a new version and you agree to it. Earlier versions are kept.
    • (b) Our pricing covers one lesson a week for each subject, Monday to Sunday.
    • (c) If we cancel lessons, or your tutor can't continue, we will move the target date back or provide another teacher. The Performance Fee only ever covers lessons taught.
    • (d) If your child is ill, or there's an emergency, lasting more than 7 days, either side can ask to pause the Milestone, and the target date moves with a new version.
    • (e) If your child changes school, exam board or tier, either side can ask for the Target to be revised.
  9. 9. Ending a Milestone early

    • (a) You can end a Milestone at any time. If you end it early, or decide not to continue, the Performance Fee on the lessons already taught in it is payable in full, whatever the outcome to date and even if you have kept the Family Commitments. Clause 5 does not apply.
    • (b) Clause 9(a) does not apply if you end the Milestone because we did not keep to clause 2. In that case no Performance Fee is payable.
    • (c) Your right to cancel: you can cancel within 14 days of agreeing a Milestone. When you agree, you ask us to carry on with lessons during that time. If you cancel within it, you pay for the lessons already taught at their full price (Pay-as-you-go and Performance Fee) and nothing for lessons not yet taught.
  10. 10. Challenging the outcome

If you disagree with the outcome we record, tell us within 7 days. We will review the evidence, with an independent teacher if needed. If the outcome changes, we will cancel or reissue the invoice.

  11. 11. Paying the Performance Fee

We invoice the Performance Fee by email once the outcome is recorded. It is due within 7 days. The next Milestone starts once it is paid.

  12. 12. Changing tutor

    • (a) If you're unhappy with your tutor, you can ask us to change them at any time. We will find another teacher.
    • (b) The Milestone carries on with your new tutor. The Goal, Target, Baseline and Check stay the same (a Check your former tutor was to set and mark is set and marked by your new tutor or your child's school teacher instead), and the target date can move back by the time it takes your new tutor to start.
    • (c) Lessons already taught keep their price and their teacher's tier. Lessons with your new tutor are at your new tutor's price and tier. The Performance Fee is worked out lesson by lesson under clause 5, each lesson at its own price and its own teacher's share, so the two are mixed.
    • (d) We send you the updated Milestone as a new version to agree.
    • (e) Changing tutor is not ending a Milestone early, and clause 9 does not apply to it.
  13. 13. Your statutory rights

This guarantee is in addition to your legal rights and does not affect them.
