About Zak
I am a fully qualified English teacher with extensive experience teaching across the UK and internationally, including several years in London based secondary schools and leading British international schools in Qatar. I have taught English across KS3, GCSE/IGCSE, A-Level and post-16 settings, supporting students across a wide range of abilities, including learners with SEN and EAL needs. Alongside classroom teaching, I have significant private tutoring experience, supporting students with school entrance examinations, GCSE and IGCSE English, A-Level English, academic writing and university-level study.
My academic background has been shaped by study at leading Russell Group universities. I hold a BA in English from Queen Mary University of London, an MA in Education from the University of Exeter, and PGCE in Secondary English. I am also currently a PhD researcher in English at the University of Exeter, where my doctoral research allows me to bring advanced subject knowledge, critical analysis and academic research skills directly into my teaching.
I have experience supporting students with a wide range of needs, including EAL and SEN learners, and I am confident adapting challenging material into clear, manageable steps. I aim to create lessons where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and gradually becoming more independent learners.
Additionally, I can support students preparing for 11+ English, KS3 assessments, GCSE and IGCSE English Language and Literature, as well as A-Level English Lang/Literature. I am familiar with major UK examination boards including AQA, Pearson Edexcel and Cambridge, and I regularly use past papers, mark schemes and examiner expectations to make tuition focused and purposeful.
